UCSB has initiated a campuswide Automated External Defibrillator (AED) program with the intention of making early defibrillation available during cardiac emergencies. While Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an important link in the survival process of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), defibrillation is the only definitive treatment for ventricular fibrillation, the rhythm that most often causes SCA.
The campus has a purchase agreement with Cardiac Science for departments who wish to purchase an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Although it is easy to follow the automated instructions to use this device, due to State regulations, departments are required to show proof of AED and CPR training for 2 AED coordinators. The cost of training is in addition to the cost of the AED unit. We also recommend the purchase of the wall mount storage box for the AED, which provides an anti-theft alarm system.
The device will be shipped to EH&S, who will coordinate with campus departments in scheduling delivery of the AED unit. To place an order please follow the following steps and use Purchasing's ALLN01 on-line system to submit a requisition. Contact Jesus Rios at 893-2661, ext. 2403 with any ordering questions.
To place an order, first fill out the AED Request Form, then enter a purchase requisition in Complete and follow the instructions below:
