CPR
& Advance Oxygen First Aid Refresher Course
This refresher course represents entry level training designed for active
UCSB Research Divers in recognizing possible dive related injuries and
providing emergency oxygen first aid while activating the local emergency
medical services (EMS) and/or arranging for evacuation to the nearest
available medical facility. This refresher course reviews the techniques
taught by the American
Heart Association, the American
Red Cross, the American
Safety & Health Institute and the Divers
Alert Network. A completion card can be provided if requested.
Active
divers are required annually to refresh their CPR & Oxygen First Aid
skills. Courses are provided by the Diving Safety Program upon demand.
Dive groups are encouraged to complete the course together prior to the
start of their dive season.

Other
Training Opportunities Offered:
- CPR
for Infants and Children
This course teaches CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction
for infants (birth to 1 year of age) and children (1 year to 8 years
of age). Written test is required for completion card.
- Adult
CPR/AED
This course teaches the basic techniques of adult CPR and how to use an
AED. Students also learn about using barrier devices in CPR and giving
first aid for choking. The course teaches how to recognize the signs
of four major emergencies: heart attack, stroke, cardiac arrest and
foreign-body airway obstruction. Written test is required for completion
card.
- DAN
Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries
As a recreational diver, you can receive training to provide vital first
aid that can make a difference to a scuba diver with decompression illness.
The DAN Oxygen Provider Course provides entry-level training in the
recognition and management of possible diving-related injuries using
emergency oxygen first aid. Written test is required for completion
card.
- Remote
Emergency Medical Oxygen (REMO2)
The DAN Remote Emergency Medical Oxygen (REMO2) system module supplements
the DAN Oxygen First Aid in Scuba Diving Injuries course. Based on medical
closed-circuit oxygen rebreather technology, the REMO2 device provides
injured divers with high concentrations of emergency oxygen for extended
periods. This training course instructs the Oxygen Provider in the use
of DAN's new REMO2 system.
